Types of Drug Tests
There are 5 primary types of drug tests: blood, urine, hair, sweat and saliva ones. The most wide-spread is the urine test. This test type is known to be cheap less intruding than the blood test. It is also possible to test for alcohol in hair and for fingernails. Specimen can be impured, replaced, or diluted.
Blood Drug Tests
A blood test helps to measure the amount of alcohol/other drugs in the blood. Blood samples provide an exact measure of active drug present in the blood at the time of test. In cases of death because of an accident or serious injury, blood testing is the only way to ascertain legitimate intoxication. It is to be noticed that there is a very short detection period.
Urine Drug Tests
Urine test allows to detect the presence/absence of certain drugs or drug metabolites in the human urine. A positive urine test detects taking a particular drug within the previous few days. Alcohol is known to pass quickly through the system. That is why one should conduct the urine test very fast after alcohol consumption.
Hair Drug Tests
Analysis of hair provides almost complete history of drug use that goes back as far as ninety days. Like urine test, hair drug test cannot provide evidence of current use of a specific drug, only the past one. Hair testing helps to detect alcohol, as well.
Sweat Drug Tests
This drug test consists of a skin patch that measures drugs in sweat. The patch looks like a large bandage. It is put on the skin and should be worn for a certain time period. Sometimes the sweat patch is used in the system of criminal justice. Nevertheless, it not widely used in schools and workplaces.
Saliva Drug Tests
Saliva tests help in detecting of traces of drugs and alcohol. Saliva is very easy to collect. Besides, its collection is not invasive at all. Because drugs and their metabolites do not stay in oral fluids for a long time, this test is better for determining impairment and current use.
Non-Invasive Tests. Such tests have many advantages. First of all, variable removal date and long detection window are provided. They can be quickly applied and removed. Limited number of laboratories can process results.
Breath Alcohol. A breath-alcohol testing is the most popular test for detecting of the current amount of alcohol in the blood. After the person blows into a special breath-alcohol device, the results are given as a number, which is known as BAC (the Blood Alcohol Concentration).
